Zcash wallets compared: the full capability matrix
Only some Zcash wallets support private (shielded) ZEC in the new Ironwood pool: Zodl, Zingo!, Zkool, Edge, Unstoppable, Cake Wallet, Ledger and Keystone are the main ones. Popular multi-coin apps such as Exodus, Trust Wallet, Coinomi, SafePal and Trezor handle transparent ZEC only, and YWallet, Nighthawk and Zecwallet Lite should no longer be used.
Most wallet lists treat every app that shows a ZEC balance as a "Zcash wallet". That hides the thing that matters most: whether the wallet can use Zcash's privacy. Since 28 July 2026 that means supporting the Ironwood shielded pool. This matrix shows what each wallet actually supports, as of 24 October 2026, based on the ZecHub wallet directory, vendor announcements and our own research.
How to read the table
- Ironwood: can receive and spend in the current shielded pool. Without it you cannot hold new shielded funds.
- Sapling: the older shielded pool (
zs1), still supported. - Transparent: public
t1addresses, like Bitcoin. - Not verified means we could not confirm it; it does not mean no.

There is still no mature, Ironwood-ready standalone web wallet. Pages offering a "Zcash web wallet" that asks for your seed are phishing; see Zcash web wallet.
Newer and lightly documented wallets
The ZecHub directory also lists Dizzy, Zapp, Noir, Nozy and zecd as Ironwood-ready, Zipher as in progress, and eZcash, Zenith and Zend as not ready. We have not been able to verify most of these beyond the directory, so we do not recommend them for large amounts yet. Argos (Sovright, 30 Jun 2026) is a recovery tool for funds stuck in old wallets such as Zecwallet Lite, not an everyday wallet.
What this means for you
- If your wallet is in the "transparent only" group, your ZEC is fully public. Move it to a shielded wallet: see how to shield ZEC.
- If you used YWallet, follow YWallet to Zkool. If you have old Orchard funds anywhere, see Orchard to Ironwood.
- Your unified (
u1) address did not change with Ironwood. - Download wallets only from the official site or app store and check the developer name. Fake wallet apps exist.
Which should you choose?
- Most people: Zodl on a phone. Shielded by default and easy.
- Multi-coin on mobile: Unstoppable, Edge or Cake Wallet; all three support Ironwood.
- Desktop and power users: Zkool, or Zallet if you run a full node.
- Large amounts: Keystone with Zodl, or Ledger with Ledger Wallet Desktop or Zkool. See Ledger vs Keystone.
- Avoid for privacy: transparent-only apps, browser extensions that are not Ironwood-ready, and retired wallets.

Frequently asked questions
Which Zcash wallets support Ironwood?
Main ones: Zodl, Zingo!, Zkool, Edge, Unstoppable, Cake Wallet, Vizor, Ledger and Keystone, with Zallet in beta. Brave Wallet's Ironwood support was still in progress in October 2026.
Does Exodus or Trust Wallet support shielded ZEC?
No. Exodus, Trust Wallet, Coinomi, SafePal, Guarda and several other multi-coin apps support only transparent ZEC, which is fully public.
Is YWallet still safe to use?
YWallet is retired and not Ironwood-ready, so do not use it for new funds. Its developer's new wallet, Zkool, imports YWallet accounts.
Is there a hardware wallet for shielded ZEC?
Yes. Keystone 3 Pro (with Zodl) and Ledger (with Ledger Wallet Desktop, Zkool or Vizor) support shielded ZEC in Ironwood. Trezor is transparent only.
Is there a safe Zcash web wallet?
Not a mature one. A few browser extensions exist, mostly in beta. Any website asking you to enter your seed to restore a Zcash wallet should be treated as phishing.
