ZEC Wallet Guide Best ZEC wallets

Best Zcash wallet for iPhone

On iPhone, Zodl (formerly Zashi) is the best Zcash wallet for most people in October 2026: shielded by default, Ironwood-ready and able to pair with a Keystone hardware wallet. Zingo! and Zkool are strong privacy-focused alternatives and Edge, Unstoppable and Cake Wallet suit multi-coin users, but note that iOS limits background tasks, so migrations and long syncs need the app open.

iPhone users have nearly as much choice as Android users. Every wallet below supports shielded ZEC and was Ironwood-ready according to the ZecHub directory in October 2026.

The main difference on iOS is Apple's limit on background work. Wallets cannot quietly sync or run a multi-step migration while closed, so you will see more "open the app to continue" prompts than on Android.

1. Zodl: best overall on iPhone

Zodl (the renamed Zashi) is the most polished shielded wallet on iOS. It keeps everything shielded, offers 1-click shielding of transparent deposits, built-in NEAR Intents swaps, and Tor for syncing and migration.

It is also the only iPhone wallet that manages a Keystone 3 Pro hardware wallet for shielded ZEC. The phone does the syncing and the air-gapped Keystone signs transactions by QR code, so your keys never touch the phone. See Keystone.

The iOS catch: Zodl's gradual Orchard-to-Ironwood migration (version 3.9.0, 7 August 2026) sends you a notification when each step is ready, and you must reopen the app to continue. On Android it runs on its own.

2. Zingo!: best lightweight option

Zingo! from Zingo Labs is built around shielded payments and private memo messages. The pepper-sync engine lets you spend before the sync is complete, which helps on iOS where syncing only happens with the app open. It supports TEX addresses, useful when an exchange requires one.

3. Zkool: best for advanced privacy

Zkool, by the developer of the retired YWallet, has an App Store listing. It supports multiple and hidden accounts, an encrypted wallet database, FROST shielded multisig and network transport over Tor or Nym. The interface is basic and it does not shield transparent funds automatically. It imports YWallet backups, so it is the natural home for former YWallet users (see YWallet to Zkool).

4. Multi-coin: Edge, Unstoppable, Cake

Edge has offered shielded ZEC since January 2022 and uses a username and password with an encrypted server backup instead of making you start with a seed. Unstoppable is fully open source with shielded ZEC and in-app swaps. Cake Wallet added Zcash in January 2026, shields by default and moved Orchard balances to Ironwood automatically, but only while the app is open.

Ledger on iPhone?

Not yet for shielded ZEC. Ledger's native shielded support (23 September 2026) is in Ledger Wallet Desktop only; Ledger says mobile is "coming soon" with no date. If you want hardware security on iPhone today, Keystone with Zodl is the option.

Coming from Zashi or YWallet on iPhone

If you had Zashi installed, you already have Zodl: the rename, announced on 16 February 2026, arrived as a normal App Store update, with the same recovery phrase and balance. Make sure you are on a version released after 28 July 2026 so your wallet can use Ironwood.

If you used YWallet, it is retired and not Ironwood-ready. Install Zkool from the App Store and import your YWallet seeds or backup. Then move any Orchard balance into Ironwood. See YWallet to Zkool and Orchard to Ironwood.

Setting up a wallet on iPhone

  1. Install the app from the App Store link on the developer's official site, or check the developer name carefully.
  2. Create a wallet and write down the recovery phrase on paper (plus the birthday height in Zodl).
  3. Turn on Face ID or a passcode for the app.
  4. Receive a small test amount to your shielded or unified address before moving more.
  5. If you receive transparent ZEC from an exchange, shield it (Zodl: one tap; Cake: automatic).

Step-by-step: create a Zcash wallet.

Network privacy on iPhone

Light wallets get blocks from a server that can see your IP address and when you sync, though not your balance. Zodl's Tor option and Zkool's Tor and Nym options hide your IP from that server. They make syncing slower, so you might enable them only for sensitive moments such as an Ironwood migration, when turnstile amounts are public.

iPhone safety tips

  • Search the App Store carefully. In April 2026 Kaspersky reported 26 fake wallet apps on Apple's store that stole recovery phrases. Check the developer name and reviews, or follow the App Store link on the official site, typed by hand: zodl.com, zingolabs.org, edge.app, unstoppable.money, cakewallet.com.
  • Write your recovery phrase on paper. Do not store it in Notes, Photos or iCloud.
  • Note Zodl's birthday height alongside the 24 words so a restore is fast.
  • Before a long sync or migration, plug in the phone and keep the wallet open.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Zcash wallet for iPhone?

Zodl (formerly Zashi) for most people. Zingo! and Zkool are good alternatives, and Edge, Unstoppable and Cake Wallet work well if you hold other coins.

Can I use a hardware wallet with Zcash on iPhone?

Yes, a Keystone 3 Pro paired with Zodl supports shielded ZEC in the Ironwood pool. Ledger's shielded support is desktop only for now.

Why does my iPhone wallet sync only when open?

iOS restricts background activity, so Zcash light wallets, which scan blocks on your device, mostly sync while the app is in the foreground.

Is there a Zcash web wallet I can use in Safari?

There is no mainstream, Ironwood-ready web wallet. Sites that call themselves a Zcash web wallet and ask for your recovery phrase are scams.
