Best Zcash wallet for Android
Zodl (formerly Zashi) is the best Android Zcash wallet for most people in October 2026: it is shielded by default, Ironwood-ready, and on Android it even runs the Orchard-to-Ironwood migration in the background. Zingo! is a lighter alternative, and Unstoppable, Edge and Cake Wallet are good if you hold other coins too.
Android is the best-served platform for Zcash. Every major shielded wallet has an Android version, and two of them (Zodl and Unstoppable) can be installed from F-Droid, the open-source app store, if you prefer to avoid Google Play.
All the wallets below were Ironwood-ready according to the ZecHub directory in October 2026, which means they can receive into the new shielded pool that went live on 28 July 2026.

1. Zodl: best overall on Android
Zodl is the wallet formerly called Zashi, now developed by Zcash Open Development Lab. On Android it has one real advantage over iPhone: the gradual Orchard-to-Ironwood migration added in version 3.9.0 (7 August 2026) runs by itself in the background once started. On iOS you must reopen the app at each step.
It also offers 1-click shielding of transparent funds, NEAR Intents swaps, CrossPay (pay in shielded ZEC while the recipient gets another asset), Flexa retail payments and Keystone hardware wallet support. The F-Droid FOSS build is a good choice if you want to avoid Google services.
2. Zingo!: best lightweight option
Zingo! is a shielded-first wallet from Zingo Labs. Its pepper-sync engine lets you spend before a sync completes, which matters on a phone that has been offline for weeks. It supports unified and TEX addresses and treats memos as private messages. It has fewer extras (no built-in swaps that we found).
3. Unstoppable: best open-source multi-coin wallet
Unstoppable holds Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other coins alongside fully shielded ZEC. Its code is public and WalletScrutiny confirms the published app matches it. It is on F-Droid, which few multi-coin wallets are.
4. Edge and Cake Wallet
Edge has supported shielded ZEC since January 2022. It is still self-custodial, but you log in with a username and password and Edge stores an encrypted backup on its servers. Some people like that convenience; others prefer a seed they hold alone.
Cake Wallet added Zcash on 20 January 2026. It keeps ZEC shielded by default, automatically shields incoming transparent funds straight into Ironwood, and migrated old Orchard balances automatically from version 6.4.0. It is a natural pick if you already use Cake for Monero.
What about Zkool?
Zkool, the successor to YWallet, is excellent, but its documented builds are for Linux and iOS. Its source code contains an Android project, yet we could not confirm an official Android store listing in October 2026. If you want Zkool on Android, get it only through the developer's GitHub project (hhanh00/zkool2) and never from a third-party APK site.
Android wallets to avoid for Zcash
- YWallet: retired, not Ironwood-ready. See moving from YWallet.
- Nighthawk: stopped supporting ZEC sends on 29 September 2025.
- Trust Wallet, Coinomi, SafePal, Exodus: transparent addresses only. See transparent-only wallets.
Setting up a shielded wallet on Android
- Install the wallet from Google Play or F-Droid, checking that the developer name matches the official site.
- Create a new wallet. Write the recovery phrase on paper, in order, and for Zodl also note the birthday height.
- Set a screen lock or app PIN.
- Copy your shielded or unified receiving address and send yourself a small test amount.
- Once it arrives, confirm you can see it, then move larger amounts.

Withdrawing from an exchange to your Android wallet
Some exchanges only send to transparent addresses; Coinbase, for example, does not send to shielded addresses. In that case, use the transparent address your wallet offers, then shield the funds. Zodl does this in one tap and Cake does it automatically, straight into Ironwood. If the exchange gives you a tex1 deposit address for sending ZEC back, use a wallet that supports TEX such as Zingo!. Details: shielding ZEC.
Sync and battery
A shielded light wallet scans new blocks on your phone to find your payments, because the server is not allowed to know which ones are yours. After a long break the first sync can take a while and use battery. Zingo!'s pepper-sync lets you spend before it finishes, and Zodl's Slipstream engine, added in version 3.9.0, aims to shorten restore and sync times. Keep the phone on charge for a first restore.
Android safety tips
- Check the developer name on Google Play before installing. Fake wallet apps that steal recovery phrases are a recurring problem on every app store (Kaspersky reported 26 on Apple's store alone in April 2026).
- Do not sideload APKs from forums or Telegram. Use Google Play, F-Droid or the developer's own GitHub releases.
- Keep Android updated and avoid rooted phones for wallets holding real money.
- Write down the 24 words and Zodl's birthday height on paper. A screenshot can be read by other apps or synced to the cloud.
- Battery savers can pause background syncing. If a migration or sync seems stuck, open the wallet and leave it in the foreground.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zodl available on F-Droid?
Yes. Zodl has a FOSS build on F-Droid, as well as Google Play and APKs on its GitHub releases page.
Which Android Zcash wallet is best for beginners?
Zodl. It keeps funds shielded automatically, offers 1-click shielding of transparent deposits and guides you through backing up a 24-word phrase and birthday height.
Is Trust Wallet good for Zcash on Android?
Only for transparent ZEC. Trust Wallet does not support shielded addresses or Ironwood, so your balance and transactions are public.
Does migration to Ironwood work in the background on Android?
In Zodl, yes: once started, the gradual migration continues in the background on Android. Cake Wallet's migration only progresses while the app is open.
