ZEC Wallet Guide Best ZEC wallets

Zcash fee calculator (ZIP-317)

Zcash wallets pay a standard fee of 5,000 zatoshi per logical action, with a minimum of two actions, so a simple shielded payment costs 0.0001 ZEC. Enter what your transaction contains to see the exact conventional fee.

The ZIP-317 rule

Since 2023, Zcash wallets follow ZIP-317: fee = 5,000 zatoshi × max(2, logical actions). Logical actions are counted per part of the transaction:

PartLogical actions
TransparentThe larger of inputs and outputs (strictly, input bytes ÷ 150 and output bytes ÷ 34, rounded up)
SaplingThe larger of spends and outputs
Orchard / IronwoodThe number of actions

So a typical shielded payment with two actions costs 10,000 zatoshi (0.0001 ZEC). Shielding many small transparent coins at once costs more, because each input counts. The fee is a wallet convention rather than a consensus rule, but transactions paying less may be slow to confirm. See Zcash fees explained.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Zcash transaction fee?

Usually 0.0001 ZEC (10,000 zatoshi) for a simple payment. Transactions with many inputs or outputs pay 5,000 zatoshi for each extra logical action.

Why did my shielding transaction cost more?

Each transparent input counts as an action, so shielding many small amounts at once raises the fee.

Can I pay a lower fee?

Wallets follow ZIP-317 by default. Lower fees are not forbidden by consensus, but such transactions may not be relayed or mined promptly.
